Trainspotting
Danny Boyle's 1996 black comedy Trainspotting, starring Ewan McGregor as Mark Renton, a junky trying to give up his heroin habit.

I love this film - I knew I would, but it was one of those things that just escaped me. In 1996 I was in 6th grade, no way capable of handling or appreciating a film like this - and as I went through high school it seemed all I cared about was mindless teen comedies and full-frontal female nudity. But now, as a result of my time in the twilight zone that is "the college years," I've come to enjoy and respect this film.

Anyway, if you haven't seen this - you really should. It will make you appreciate Ewan McGregor's skill as an actor even more, and it's also a good 'starting' movie to get you into UK cinema.

I love everything about this movie. Wouldn't change a thing about it. The book is equally amazing. And the sequel is great too. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. It's called "Porno" and it picks up the gang's story a few years down the road. They basically get back together and try to make hardcore pornography. It's a great read if you can find it.
