Dreamgirls
Dreamgirls

Based on the 1981 Broadway musical comes Dreamgirls, a story of greed, tough hate, and romance. Three young women - Deena Jones (Beyoncé Knowles), Effie White (Jennifer Hudson), and Lorrell Robinson (Anika Noni Rose)- desire to become pop stars and get their wish when they're picked to be backup singers for the legendary James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy).

After their tour as backup singers, the group is ready to headline, but Curtis Taylor (Jamie Foxx) and Effie's brother C.C. (Keith Robinson) decide for Deena to be lead which upsets Effie.

The first hour of this film was rather enjoyable, as it was mainly comprised of musical performances. After the one hour mark, it took a sour turn when characters started singing their dialogue to one another. In the end, this film was ridiculous and impossible to take seriously. The first hour was enjoyable, though. Dreamgirls isn't as moving and entertaining as Ray, but it isn't as horrid as Rent.
