Crimson Rivers

Two French policemen, one investigating a grisly murder at a remote mountain college, the other working on the desecration of a young girl's grave by skinheads, are brought together by the clues from their respective cases. Soon after they start working together, more murders are committed, and the pair begin to discover just what dark secrets are behind the killings.

Ted, my film teacher, highly recommended this movie to me. I netflixed not really thinking much about it. It sat on my night table for about a week. I think I half expected to send it back without watching it. Well last night I stuck it in to watch the trailer and was completely absorbed. I immediately hit play and what resulted was an amazing sleeper(meaning never heard of it or saw it coming) movie.

Jean Reno(Leon:The Professional, Davinci Code, Ronin, and Mission Impossible) and Vincent Cassel(Derailed and Oceans 12) were amazing as their roles as opposite Lethal Weapon cops. Reno as Danny and Vinnie as Mel.

I loved the story that takes you deep into Nazi history and even down into the belly of an avalanche. The Camera work and actor marriage was the films best aspect. It was the little things the actors would do and the director's eye would capture that was seemingly insignificant but as a result created the greatness of the whole movie.
French Cinema never ceases to amaze me. In pitching the idea of this movie to me Ted told me the sequel was even better...if so I am in for a treat because this one was awesome. I think even Luc Besson(La Femme Nakita, Leon:The Professional) wrote the sequel. Highly recommend this movies rental. HIGHLY!

A great movie that most North Americans haven't seen. I'm rapidly becoming a BIG BIG fan of French cinema. I didn't like the sequel at all but this one turned out to be one of my all time faves.

I agree with you totally Karen...I couldn't believe how much I loved this movie. Totally took me by surprise. My film teacher recommended the sequel to me in order to prove a point that Casino Royale ripped it off. I figured I better watch the first one first. Besides...who doesnt love Jean Reno!...
